VALENTINES DAY & ASH WEDNESDAY
It has been recognized that for this year, Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday fall on the same day. We would like to keep the atmosphere created by the two days separate. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Season of Lent. It is a season of penance, reflection and fasting which prepares us for Christ’s Resurrection on Easter Sunday, through which we attain redemption. At school and home we find children making a commitment to fast by giving up something for Lent. Some may give up video games or candy.
With this in mind, we at the school are going to move our activities associated with Valentine’s Day to Tuesday, February 13th. Moving these activities to Tuesday, allows us as a community to focus on Ash Wednesday with prayer.
We ask parents to support us as well. If you were going to send valentines for students in the class, please do so on Tuesday, February 13th. We will be having a spirit day by wearing pink, red and white on Tuesday as well. Let’s have fun and celebrate Valentine’s Day on Tuesday this year and keep the reverence of Ash Wednesday on Wednesday.
